Premium/ Shooting with your Fuji without a lens (well, almost…)
When I was still a Canon user – it looks like it was just yesterday, but I switched to the Fuji X system 4 years ago – I tried out several photographic techniques, some better known than others. Although my passion is landscape photography, I naturally tried one or the other different areas and put one or the other idea into practice. In this world of photography, the more you photograph, the more you learn. The more you read, the more you learn. The more you see, the more you learn. And, at the end of the day, it is trial and error that makes us evolve. Over the years, I experimented and practised panning, photographed with flash, used a welder filter to simulate a neutral density filter of 10 (or more) stops, inverted lenses and, at a time when in Portugal no one had ever photographed this way, I built a car-rig to make panning photos more radical, more original. It was a little rudimentary, but it worked, and that’s what matters.
One day, I came across an article that caught my attention. The title was something like “Shoot without a lens”. Who is not curious? I did not know the technique, I am sincere, although apparently it was (and had been) used by many photographers. After reading and seeing the images that illustrated the article, I was anxious to try. Naturally, I tried macro lenses, but I never invested in one because I never felt a real need. But we know that with them we can shoot at minimum distances that “normal” lenses cannot. The final results can be really pleasant. But, after all, what does this technique consist?
