“Um Olhar Sobre o Corpo” – Fashion and Authorial Photography from Brazil

My name is Thiago, and I live in Santos, SP Brazil. Together with my wife Thairiny @iamthairiny, who already worked in commercials, advertisements and theatre, the result was a creative duo that tells stories through photography and short films, known on Instagram here in Brazil as @Garouwafilms.

I really like fashion and authorial photography, experimenting with movements and the delicacy of the sensitivity of the gaze on the body. It was a discovery process to get here and realize my identity in photography.

After acquiring my favourite camera, a Fuji X-T2 and an XF23mm F2 lens, I started to expand my fashion photography work to some magazines through submission, and ended up in two interesting magazines, one in London (VMM) and another in Italy (VOGUE).

It was shocking to discover that my photos were good enough to appear in such important magazines in a global selection.

Most of my photos are taken in São Paulo and Santos in my home studio and also on the streets, taking a more playful and etheric aspect in the photoshoots.

It’s interesting because since I’ve known myself, I’ve realized that I love creating art. And no matter what I’ve been through, I’ve always been able to express myself, which I think is pretty crazy, but there’s nothing that makes me want to stop because that’s what helps me the most, expressing my feelings out and the way I that I see the world.

Our visual style is influenced by black art with period symbolism, and much of our work is inspired by our childhood experiences, black culture, our dreams, parallel realities, myths and legends.

We are writing a short film with the aim of conveying these feelings, with the same, sometimes analogical and playful, aesthetics conveyed in the photoshoots.

Here I share some photos that I found interesting, all captured with the Fuji X-T2. These photo shoots led me to meet amazing people, cultures and different worldviews.
