Impressions on the new Fujifilm Macro lens
After the original XF 60mm F2.4 R Macro lens, announced in the winter of 2012, there was a gap for quite a long time, in terms of a fresh approach to macro photography from Fujifilm.
With only 60mm in focal length and 0.5 X magnification, many didn’t consider it as a true macro lens, but more of a portrait lens, despite the demonstrated great sharpness .
Things were about to change when the new XF 80mm F2.8 R LM OIS WR lens was announced in the autumn of the last year. Apart from the wonderful optics – Fujifilm’s signature – everything was different and better about this new lens: a longer focal length, smoother and faster AF motors, optical stabilization, weather sealing, full 1:1 macro reproduction and ridiculously high levels of sharpness.
