INSIDE YOUR CAMERA BAG: John Hughes
I’ve been using the same camera bag for nearly seven years, the Hadley Small from Billingham this bag is perfect for street photography and it fits everything I need for a day on the streets.
For me, my camera bag had to be small and lightweight, but at the same time I needed to make sure my camera gear was safe and the Hadley small has never let me down. The great thing about the Billingham is nobody gives it a second look and it doesn’t look like a traditional camera bag.
Unlike most photographers I prefer to pack light as I need to move fast on the streets and on an average day I walk about 14 miles, weight is very important. The reason I only have one camera and lens is simple, I don’t want to be thinking about the gear, I need all my concentration focused on the streets and the moments I’m out capturing.
I carry one camera and one lens, at this time it’s the Fujifilm X-T2 and my one and only lens the 56mm F1.2 (non-APD). At the time of writing this, I haven’t seen the need to upgrade to the X-T3, I’ve been shooting this combination for over 2 years and I love it.
The following items are what I carry when I travel to Cambridge, London, etc. My iPhone XS Max, 2 sets of headphones, Apple AirPods and my Sony WH-1000XM3, I only use the Sony headphones when traveling and the AirPods are for when I’m recording a live video.
I also carry 3 spare batteries, 8 spare SD cards which are housed in a Think Tank wallet which also holds my debit cards, a few packs of Carl Zeiss lens wipes, my Lee filter cleaning cloth and my Peak Design wrist strap.
I always travel light and to be honest I would have a smaller bag if it wasn’t for my Sony headphones but I need these for traveling. If I’m staying over in a city and I don’t have to travel then all I’ll take out with me is the camera, lens, and 2 spare batteries.
Thank you for reading,
John Hughes
“Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is John Hughes and I’m a street photographer. I spend hours walking the streets of these amazing cities hunting for the perfect moment and let me tell you it’s a full-time job that I love.
I’ve been on this wonderful Journey through the world of photography since I was 12 years old and I’ve never lost my passion for it. For the most part, you can find me on the streets of Cambridge and London shooting with my trusty Fujifilm X-E3. I like to keep things fresh by setting myself new goals and projects. Most of these projects will be available to view here on my website.”
